GARDEN OPEN DAY AND EXHIBITION

National Gardens Scheme     24TH MAY 2009   2-7pm

On this Sunday afternoon, I will be taking part in the National Gardens Scheme open day events, my garden will be open to the public.

Weather permitting, I will also paint in the garden during the course of the afternoon, and there will be a small exhibition of my paintings on view.

For address and enquiries, please call me on 01923 824180.

Please note that there will be an entrance fee of £3, children free.  Teas and cakes will be available.   The proceeds of the afternoon will go to the National Gardens Scheme’s charities.

The garden is well worth a visit.  It is a large garden at its best in Spring.  There is a raised patio by the house with colourful, planted tubs and urns, leading to a sweeping lawn, set against a backdrop of mature trees, massive rhodedendrons, colourful azaleas, black and green bamboos and a superb Sambucus Nigra.  The garden has  lush herbaceous borders with a mixture of perennials, annuals, and evergreen shrubs chosen for year-round shape and colour variety, together with a magnificent Magnolia Grandiflora.

There are two trios of ponds, one trio stocked with fish and beautiful border plants including arum lillies, the other trio at the bottom of the garden linked by a stream and surrounded by a rock garden with alpines and a variety of beautiful acers. A small bridge traverses the stream; the lowest pond is cool and dark,  illuminated by glass art.
